The TWC Green Lake Kids Triathlon was founded in 2007 by a group of mothers who competed in triathlons and various running events and wanted to encourage their youth to participate in the same health lifestyle. This year we will be celebrating our ninth year of young kids competing in events that will last them a lifetime – swimming, running and biking. Our Green Lake Kids Triathlon will be held on Saturday, August 8th, 2015.
Every year the Green Lake Kids Triathlon donates all proceeds raised (beyond the cost of the event) to an organization that also promotes a healthy lifestyle for kids. We are changing our format slightly. Beginning this year, TWC and New London-Spicer Schools will partner to administer the race day operations and select New London-Spicer school organizations to receive mini grants.
“We are very grateful to Kelly and Sheri TerWisscha for offering us the chance to become involved in the Kids Triathlon” commented New London-Spicer CE/Activities Director, John Vraa. “It looks to be a really good fit. We have volunteerism built into our many student organizations and extra-curricular activities and this partnership will provide the opportunity for our groups to volunteer and at the same time receive funding for their organization.” Vraa said all New London-Spicer Pre-K through 12 student organizations are eligible to apply and the mini grant applications are now available in the CE/Activities office. $6,000 in mini grants will be offered in 2015. “
TWC CEO, Kelly TerWisscha, said the final partnership was set-up after visiting with Vraa and some members of the New London-Spicer Sports Booster Club. “We started visiting with John and the Sports Booster Club knowing their ability to run events. We are very pleased with the end result to use the Booster Club expertise and also broaden out to the many student organizations at NL-S.” TerWisscha said TWC staff will help transition the race day operations in 2015 and he expects some long time volunteers will continue for years to come. “We are very thankful and proud for the time our TWC staff has put into the Kids Triathlon,” said TerWisscha.
TWC is excited to partner with the NL-S schools to continue our goal of donating to an organization that promotes a healthy lifestyle for kids. With the race-day support of the New London-Spicer Schools volunteers alongside our TWC volunteers, we believe that this years race will be larger, safer, and more successful than any previous year and, most importantly, a lot of fun!
